Cooper’s Island Nature Reserve
Located at the South-Eastern end of Bermuda, in St David’s is a 77-acre nature reserve comprising unspoiled beaches, woodland, salt marsh and rocky shores. Originally a restricted area occupied by the US Military, Cooper’s Island Nature Reserve was officially handed back to the Bermudan people in 1995. The locals have been enjoying all that this beautiful area has to offer since. Once you are inside the reserve, it’s quiet and serene. There are nature trails through a vast stretch of woodland area. Although much of the reserve is filled with introduced plantations like Brazil pepper, casuarinas and allspice, there are patches where you can find a heavy concentration of Bermuda cedars, palmettos and olivewoods.
St George’s
Step back in time as you stroll the centuries-old brick streets of the town of St. George, Bermuda’s former capital and a UNESCO World Heritage site. The well-preserved historic town and nearby fortress make St. George’s and the East End a haven for British colonial architecture, history and culture. Nearby, discover many unique natural attractions, including the limestone formations of Tobacco Bay Beach, Tom Moore’s Jungle, and Bermuda’s Crystal Caves. Cooper’s Island Nature Reserve and Ferry Reach National Park are abundant with flora and birdlife, including several rare species.
Dive Bermuda
Many consider Bermuda the shipwreck capital of the world for the many ships used to ply her waters but now lie still on the seafloor. It’s easy to see why, with an estimated 300 wrecks that are victims of the island’s extensive fringing reefs. Bermuda can lay claim to being one of the world’s great diving destinations with so much on offer above and below the water.
Crystal Cave & Fantasy Cave
Small but beautifully formed, the Crystal & Fantasy Caves are Bermuda’s top visitor attraction for some spectacular reasons. Deep, clear underground pools of azure blue water accompany incredible formations of every size and shape imaginable. Cave ceilings are adorned with rare chandelier clusters and delicate crystallised soda straws. Each cave is uniquely beautiful and is a new adventure to discover. The two caves were discovered in 1907 by two teenagers who crawled down into subterranean darkness in search of a lost cricket ball. Add these attractions to your to-do list and retrace the boys’ amazing discovery.
Blue Hole Park & Walsingham Nature Reserve
Bermuda’s Walsingham Nature Reserve is a true island original. This 12-acre natural wonderland in Hamilton Parish is known locally as Tom Moore’s Jungle, named after the celebrated Irish poet who wrote some of his best-known works here while sitting under a calabash tree. Walking along the woodland trails, under a dense canopy of trees and lush vegetation, you may indeed feel that you’re exploring a jungle paradise.
