Erupting Volcanoes, gushing geysers, lunar landscapes and piping hot springs – this spectacular island was made for adventures.
Located just below the Arctic Circle, Iceland is one of the most geographically active places on Earth. It’s no surprise, therefore, that the country is packed full of natural wonders and cinematic backdrops, just waiting to be discovered at every turn.
From the cascading waterfalls and bubbling geysers of the Golden Circle to the black sandy beaches of Reynisfjara and lagoon of floating icebergs at Jökulsárlón’s – there’s no shortage of natural drama in this supercharged landscape. Explore glacial caves, whale watch, hike snowy peaks or lap up this grand scenery from your car window.
But don’t think this place is all about the great outdoors – Iceland has a wonderful counterpoint to its natural beauty by way of its thriving cultural life in Reykjavik with live music, world-class cuisine, hot springs and hip bars and clubs.
Each trip we create to this magnetic, eye-opening country is bespoke, and no two itineraries are quite alike. Call our travel experts today to learn more about our tailor-made travel service to this unique island.

Northern Lights
Don’t pass up an opportunity to catch a glimpse of one of Earth’s great shows during your stay in Iceland. The Northern Lights (also known as the aurora borealis) occurs when solar flares are drawn across the sky by the North Pole’s magnetic fields. The result is not unlike a silent firework display with dancing veils of green, white and violet flashing across the celestial heavens. To give yourself the best chance of experiencing this incredible event, plan a visit between September and April when the skies are generally clearer and darker.
Tour the Golden Circle
Iceland’s most famous and popular itinerary consists of three equally stunning locations in southwest Iceland: Thingvellir National Park, the Geysir Geothermal Area, and Gullfoss. This quintessential Icelandic excursion combines history, culture and extraordinary nature as you are taken through the heart of some of Iceland’s most iconic sites. Our travel experts can help you book a Golden Circle day tour as part of your holiday. Call us to learn more.
Natural Hot Springs
You’ve not truly experienced Iceland until you’ve taken a dip in one of the country’s many geothermal springs. You’ll find these ‘hot-pots’ everywhere from downtown Reykjavik to the top of remote mountains and beyond. They are the perfect place to relax with the locals who use these hot springs as hangouts to socialise and unwind. Undoubtedly, the most famous spa is the cyan Blue Lagoon, located in a magnificent black lava field and veiled in roiling clouds of steam. While it can become crowded with tourists at times, you’d be missing out by not taking advantage of its proximity to Keflavik Airport. Perfect for a couple of hours of relaxation pre or post-flight.
Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon
In a country packed full of jaw-dropping natural scenery, it may seem impossible to pick one stand-out attraction, and yet Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon takes the crown every time.
The lagoon is full of glittering icebergs, groaning and crunching against one another as they make their journey from the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier to the Atlantic Ocean. Visitors can choose to take part in the adrenaline pumping Zodiac boat tour among the lagoon’s massive icebergs or sit on the shoreline, take everything in and watch seal colonies play with each other.
With the enigmatic jet-black sands of Diamond Beach just a five minute walk from the lagoon, a visit to Jökulsárlón is well worth the trip to lap up some of the most visually pleasing scenes in Iceland.
Whale Watching
The immense blue whales that glide along the Icelandic coast are one of the country’s biggest draws. The region’s whale-watching capital, Húsavík, offers arguably the best excursions and opportunity to catch a glimpse of the incredible mammal. However, Reykjavik also has regular cruises if you’re looking for somewhere closer to home during a short city break.
Reykjavik’s Coffee Houses & Beer Bars
Reykjavik punches well above its weight for the sheer number of coffee houses and trendy bars within such a small area. Local culture is built around these laid-back hangouts where hipster microbrewers and coffee roasters are commonplace. They make for the perfect rest point in between exploring downtown Reykjavik and taking advantage of the city’s excellent museums and shopping opportunities.
Westfjords
Escape the mass tourists and uncover one of the country’s most dramatic landscapes by 4×4 with a visit to the Westfjords. Iceland’s northwestern peninsula is explorable by its dirt tracks that wind through small traditional fishing villages, multihued beaches and breath-taking coastal fjords. With barely a soul in sight, you’ll feel truly lost in nature, meandering along walking paths, encountering arctic wildlife and gazing upon jaw-dropping ocean vistas.

Best Time to Visit
Iceland has two very distinct seasons in which tourists can visit, and choosing when to go depends on what you’re looking to get out of your stay. The summer months typically provide ideal conditions for road-trips. In contrast, winter months are the perfect time to visit if you’re hoping to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights when the skies are darker. If you’re planning on travelling during the winter season, be sure to pack warm clothes as reduced daylight hours mean temperatures can plummet as low as -10C.
