TRIP HIGHLIGHTS

Become a Castaway
Almost all the Maldives’ resorts offer the chance to become a (luxury) castaway on one of the many uninhabited, pristine islands. As part of this modern castaway experience, you and your partner or family will be taken by boat and dropped off on the island’s white-powdered sands. Armed with a luxury picnic basket provided by the resort, the crew will then hop back on the boat and will leave you to your own devices. Spend your time as you wish – explore Robinson Crusoe style, dine on the beach, swim the shoreline – the island is yours to do with it as you please.

Arriving by Seaplane
Roads are few and far between in a country of over a thousand tiny islands. In most cases, you’ll likely arrive at your resort by seaplane, and what an experience it is. Far from being just a unique taxi journey to get you to your destination, seaplanes offer an unforgettable way to view the picturesque coral atolls and desert islands from above.

Scuba Diving
Whether you’ve never tried your hand at scuba diving or you consider yourself somewhat of a seasoned pro, you have to give diving a go when in the Maldives. There is as much to explore underwater as there is above ground with multi-hued corals, tropical fish, turtles, rays and even sharks lurking beneath in this jaw-dropping world. Safety standards here are exceptional as dives are supervised by experienced, passionate professionals who use modern equipment, so you can rest assured you’re in more than capable hands.

Swap the Beach for Male
The Maldivian capital is the best way to soak up the local culture should you decide to trade tropical seclusion for civilisation. The unusual city is full of multi-coloured houses, bustling marketplaces and tea shops where you can share delicious ‘short eats’ and a chat with the friendly residents. The National Museum and the Grand Friday Mosque are well worth a look around while in town.

Soak up the Views on Farukolhufushi Island
You can guarantee this white sandy beach lined with palm trees is easier on the eye than its name is on paper. The island has a gorgeous wraparound reef that attracts all manner of tropical fish that you can see swimming through the crystal-clear water. Kick and sunbathe on the shoreline or hop on a 10-minute speedboat across to the lively capital, Male, for some lunch and a well-deserved afternoon tipple.
